Facebook's actually pretty wonderful. I've just discovered -- well, the discovery was forced upon me -- the Facebook IM. Adium supports it, and now my buddy list is populated with people I never bothered to talk to online. This was somewhat forced on me by my insistence on Facebook, in fact. I met a group of interesting people a few weeks ago, and when I got home I tried to find them and add them as friends on Facebook. One of them decided to IM me on it, and I realized that it's a good thing and we talk regularly. nFriends++!

I still feel bad about standing you up last year in Boston due to my inability to tell the difference between Eastern and Central time. I am sure that a more naturally social person would have followed up with you relatively quickly and tried to make some amends. I'm so sorry about that, and sorry that I've taken so long to get back in touch. (This is Geng, by the way.)

This was a very interesting post, and even though you're right in that these insights illuminate a simple concept, acting on them (action following reflection) is very difficult for those of us for whom easy social interactions do not come naturally. So it's always helpful to read about someone else's revelations and gain some courage and encouragement that way. (Wow, I seriously did not realize until now that "courage" and "encourage" share a stem.)

On a less abstract note, why does your back hurt? I hope I'm not being too nosy. It's just that I've noticed that my neck hurts sometimes and I'm positive it has to do with working at a desk all day. I'm wondering if other twenty-somethings are having similar problems.

Glad to read that you're listening to Nightwish.

An unrelated three body problem:

Can you think of three foods such that any two go together but all three do not?

that's extremely weird for me, because all the comments I got when talking w/ friends was about how batman was completely outshone by the other two (The Joker is basically unanimously considered the most interesting), so this was an attempt to vindicate Batman. Cool.

I really thought his transformation was teh heart of the piece, and demonstrates how hard it is to "keep it real" in the moral sense. Maybe I should rewatch. I actually thought the Joker was the least interesting character, and it was just Heath Ledger's tics that made him stand out (this is somewhat true to the original Joker in the comics, whose backstory is never really fleshed out and isn't a very deep character, just psychotic).

I dunno about the 3-body problem - I thought Harvey Dent was not nearly as interesting, fleshed out, or focused as Batman or the Joker. He felt like a reason to turn the movie into a 150-minute tour de force rather than a 90-minute summer blockbuster, and that's about it. :-P
